What Is The GI? GI means "glycemic index".
The GI ranks carbohydrates according to their effect on blood glucose (sugar) levels. For the same amount of carbohydrate, foods with a lower GI raise blood glucose less than those with higher GI values. The Glycemic Index (GI) Symbol Program is a food
labeling program that aims to help people make informed food choices by the use of an easily
recognizable symbol on foods. For more information on the GI, including food values and how foods are tested for GI, see the University of Sydney's Glycemic Index website
