@ ...
@nataliawasilewska97 Only if you are willing to take on the BC as if it were another child. They are prone to herding the kids, herding bikes and skateboards, and sometimes nip. They need LOTs of exercise and cannot be kept tied up or fenced in the back yard. And, they MUST be well trained, good manners, and socialized.

@NARNIA495 If your ...
@NARNIA495 If your dog will be lose where you live, then yes, it would be cruel. A border collie can run for miles, and they are very apt to try "herding" bikes, autos and motorcycles. If you don't have a fenced yard, and if you don't have areas to play that are away from roads and cars, do NOT get one.

@haylz27 The trick ...
@haylz27 The trick to training a border collie is that you must be consistent, and you must be smarter than your dog. Remember, BCs are working dogs, bred to go 30 miles a day, 12 hours a day, all year round, AND they are fully capable of making their own decisions. You must be willing to devote more energy and time to them than you ever would a regular pet dog. You must become a *team*.

I have a 18 month ...
I have a 18 month Border Collie
German Shepherd mix. She is great! I got her from a rescue at 8 weeks. She is sooo cute and today she is 60 pounds and very smart. She requires lots of excercise physically & mentally. You can check Skylar out at her you-tube page shopbridge15. She is running on the treadmill. She has being running on the treadmill sense the age of 5 months. She normally runs 5 to 6 miles daily.

I don't know if ...
I don't know if they understand 4 languages. I think they just read our minds. My BC works with hand signals and phrases. My husband get irritated with her--then I remind him of the correct command word--she responds the first time. hehe.

kingash45bc My ...
kingash45bc My heart goes out to you. My Mattie Lou is 6. We got her when my old BC/Mix was 12 1/2 years old. The old dog died at 15 1/2. So very glad I had her then. She made life a little easier to deal with--a shoulder to cry on.

In southern ...
In southern Tasmania practically everyone who owns a dog owns a Border Collie. My Dad has two on his 5 acre property and it's amazing how intelegant they are. He *talks* to it, not commands, not in baby talk but like to another human.. *and it understands him*.

Sometimes they're almost too inteligent (they'll open doors and gates if they decide they want to) and can tend to obsess and sometimes be a little emotionally demanding. But if you want a smart energetic dog it's the Border Collie.
