Isn’t the threat of drug smugglers a threat to our nation along with all the violence that comes from drug smugglers and human smugglers ? America has been adding more and more border agents, but at every election we hear how when we add more border patrol agents about how this will secure the America border. But none of this has slowed down the flow of drugs or the violence that comes from drug smuggling and human smuggling? How can America remain a safe and secure country if our borders are not fully protected ?
I couldn’t agree more with you. I think people whom are opposed to the wall fall into two very different categories:
1. The first are those who see people trying to better themselves. Although they are not doing it the legal way, they see people fleeing other areas…what this group of people don’t understand is the fact that many of the illegal aliens still owe allegiance to their country of origin…not the US. They are only here for money and to take advantage of our system and nothing else.
2. The second group of people are those who don’t care about the US or even the other countries. They only want the cheap labor that comes with the illegal aliens who drive down wages. These are those who are pushing for open borders between Mexico, the USA and Canada so they can finally create the North American Union.
Then you have the rest of us who think that illegal aliens should be rounded up and deported back to their respective countries. If they have committed crimes here, send them back to their county to finish their sentence. These people also feel that the double fence is the best alternative to stopping the flow of illegal aliens. Why should we make it easy for the illegal aliens to break the laws? We don’t get that luxury, that is for sure!

You’ve forgotten the biggest unsecured border in the world. Yes, that’s right, the US/Canada border. Surely this is a greater threat than the measly one to the south?!!
In all seriousness though, politicians greatly overstate the importance of the border fence. Most drug and human smugglers actually use legal means to get into the country. And honey, human smuggling is not all that common from Mexico to the US and vice versa, regardless of what ‘60 Minutes’ would like us to think.
The best reasons to not put a god-awful fence up is the fact that it will not be effective, it is dreadfully inefficient costwise, and it will be devastating to the local flora and fauna. There are several endangered species of animals whose territory will be split by the wall and there can be no doubt that this could cause them to go extinct.
In short, the need for the fence has been dramatized by politicians looking for a push-button issue to get elected. The real reason for the wall? Rampant racism and ethnic superiority.

Because so many people don’t have to deal with the problem. I mean really what does some dude in New York or Colorado know about how the illegal immigration problem is?
I live in LA and I see and have to deal with the problem of illegal immigration on a daily basis. Its at the point that even Mexicans are against illegal immigrants.
Can you imagine that? Its so bad that their own people are rejecting them.
People that keep talking about the "well what about Canada" are just plain stupid. I mean yeah Canadians come over illegally but the thing is they don’t stay here that long most of them go back to Canada. Also they effing speak English!
They don’t come here only and just say "No hablo ingles to everything you say"
Tell me how many murders have been committed by Canadians?
I can tell you that there have been over 80,000 violent crimes done by illegal Hispanics and over 1 in every 30 Hispanic people are in Jail right now.

its a waste of money.. and it still wont keep drugs out of the country.. theyll just figure out new ways to deal with getting it in. i think the people that want the wall are more obsessed with the mexicans coming into our country anyway.

If the border fence is not erected and our border are secured, U.S. Americans are the ones that will be endangered soon.
The only people that think a border fence is racist are the people that have racist motives for their not being a fence (like illegal Mexicans or those that have family in Mexico wishing to immigrate illegally) and the ignorant. The rest of us are smarter than that and see a fence as a necessity unfortunately. Until Canadians start flooding the northern borer at alarming rates, lets focus on the real problem, the southern border.
Illegal isn’t a race.

The fence isn’t going to fully protect us! haven’t you heard of the tunnels around Tijuana, Mex? It’s going to cost too much for something that isn’t 100% effective, it’s going to cut through ranchers properties, and it’s going to post a threat to endangered species.

"The sheer isolation of the Arizona border region has made its public lands a place of abundant wildlife and plants, many of which are found nowhere else in the US. The fence will cross vast desert valleys crowded with saguaro cactus and ancient ironwood trees, as well as forested mountain peaks and rivers bordered by graceful cottonwood forests.
An alliance of environmental organizations says it will endanger Sonoran pronghorns, burrowing owls and put two types of endangered cougar-like cats – the ocelot and the jaguarundi – at risk of extinction by preventing them from swimming the Rio Grande to mate."

I think it is rather ironic that we fought so hard for so long to tear down the Berlin Wall but now we are in favor of building one here.
A wall on the Mexican border isn’t the solution to any of the issues. It won’t help security because the Canadian border is open as well as all of the coastal waters. It won’t stop illegal immigration. They have always found a way to get in even where fences are in place.
The only real solution is to take away the incentives for people to come here. Bring the National Guard troops home from Iraq and have them patrol borders and airports as they do in many other countries. This will really increase security. Take away all welfare and job opportunities (by penalizing companies that hire) for ILLEGAL immigrants while allowing more legal immigrants into the US with a shorter waiting time. Repeal the antiquated law that allows anyone born in the US to be a citizen to only those legally in the US.
EDIT: Elijah – not all jobs that illegal immigrants take are jobs that other people wouldn’t want. This is especially true in the construction industry where the jobs are given to illegals because they work for less money and often cash. There are plenty of people that will do the work but it is simply cheaper to use illegals.

Well guess what, NO matter how tall they build the wall and NO matter how many more border agents you add is not going to solve the problem. Because drug smugglers and human smugglers got connection so most of them don’t have to run, swim or jump WALLS. Money Talks they come in right through the main door. So your answer is because is a WASTE OF MONEY.

Over 70% of the CITIZENS of this country want to see the borders secure and illegal immigration taken care of without amnesty. Only those who are here illegally, or are anti-LAW want to see the border remain as it is. I would say that those who want things to continue as they are are in the minority.
I also agree with Diablo on this one. You are very correct when you state that the people to our south couldn’t care less about our borders or our laws. Unfortunately, the same holds true for all too many within our state and federal governments as well.

Our borders have to be protected, but a wall is not the answer. Punishing the companies who hire illegals, rent to them, etc. is the way to go. I believe that old adage that trying to win the war on drugs is like an ant crawling up an elephants leg with rape on its mind.
