how do i hang wallpaper border alone???

It’s a pain, for sure. I always look like a monkey trying to hump a football when I try to hang borders on my own but I have come up with a couple of strategies. Unless you have a scaffold you can stretch the length of the wall so you can easily walk the whole length, it is hard to keep what you’ve put up in place while you move the ladder down to the next section. What I have found works best (if you have drywall) is to take 3 or 4 good push pin , start in one corner and tack up one end of the border, wrapping about an inch around the adjacent wall. Then let the paper droop loosely and move your ladder to the other end of the wall, carrying the border with you. Then climb up and carefull stretch the border out from the tacked end and start smoothing it onto the wall, working your way towards the tacked end (you will pull out the tacks when you get there and smooth out the slack). Borders tend to be 15 feet long so you can usually smooth out the few feet to the end around the corner in an average sized room before having to move the ladder. The tiny tack holes won’t show once you get to that first end and smooth it out — if you can push the pins through a dark area of the pattern it is best though.

If you have lath and plaster walls 9so push pins don’t pierce it easily) you can also use a 10 foot long two by four wooden stud — nail a sponge to the end and pull an old sock or pantihose over it and then lean this soft cushioned end diagonally against the start of the border to hold it in place after you smooth it down and while you move the ladder (wedge the stud against a heavy piece of furniture so it stays in place).

Can you hang up a ribbon border with the stuff you hang up wall paper with?

I live in base housing and yes you can paint but you have to jump through hoops to do so. I was thinking about using a wide ribbon as a border for my daughter’s room. Would wall paper glue or whatever it is be able to adhere the ribbon to the wall? Also, would it be easy to remove without damage?

Just use liquid starch. No clean up, no residue, no damage, and it smells good, too.

how can I remove wall paper paste from a wall?

I removed a wall paper border but there is still a clear film.

No easy route here. If you removed the border from painted walls you will need to repaint to lose the effect of the border glue.

Alternatively, replace the border with something you like. You could also paint the effected area using the old colour or another colour.

How can i cut texture wallpaper into 9inch wall border?

Posted by admin on June 14th, 2010 and filed under wall paper border | 1 Comment »

I just purchased a home and in master bedroom there is a existing wall border that needs to get covered by new wall border. I am unavailable to find a wall border that matches my wall paint….There is no company who sells border in my area! Anyhow, I tried cutting the paper but was not able to get perfect cut because it’s a textured wall paper…Any advice?

You could try and getting hold of a length of timber 9 inches wide and some clean plywood lay the plywood on a flat surface like the floor with one edge laid up to the wall now lay your wallpaper on the plywood also with one edge near to the wall and lay your 9 inch timber onto those again keeping tight to the wall and then get a stanley knife and cut along the edge of the timber giving you a 9 inch strip, the plywood will prevent you from damaging the floor and the idea of keeping up against the wall will keep your timber from moving so you should get a good cut, failing that try taking the paper to your local wallpaper shop and they might cut it for you.
