Is there anything else other than the painful wall-paper bordering that I could do?
I want to remove it, but I had gotten lazy last time and didn’tr remove the old border (oops) and now looks a little uneven and lifted under the paint. Could I cover it with some texture painting or something.
ThanX!

paint, board with added designs, stencil, framed art work, hand prints (child’s), or you can look in the search engines for boarder designs.

Can I sand the wall paper instead of removing it and then paint over it?

I have some border trim wallpaper that is being very stubborn

I was wondering if I could sand the wall paper removing most of the top layer and then put a primer on the wall paper and then paint

crown molding will then be going up but will cover maybe 3 of the 6 or so inches that the wall paper now covers

yes, prime with pro-block after sanding. this site will help

You can rent a wallpaper steamer, which will help soften the wallpaper & remove it, but that is alot of work.

What is the most effective (least messy, best) way to remove pre-pasted wall paper?

Posted by admin on March 9th, 2010 and filed under wall paper borders | 19 Comments »

We just need to remove paper on an outside wall of a bedroom and it’s stuck pretty well to the wall. We also need to remove a border. Should we use chemicals or steam? I’m open to hear about experience and advice.

buy a paper tiger to score the wall. it’s a round tool that fits in your hand, you move it in circles along the wall, and it has little teeth that cut holes in the paper. if you can peel of the top layer of wallpaper, go ahead and do that to avoid the paper tiger step.

start in a corner, or where you can find the edge of the paper. fill a spray bottle with water and a little dish soap. spray a small section of wall at a time to moisten the paper. if you used a paper tiger on the wall, the holes will allow the water to penetrate to glue layer, the soap helps to losen the glue.

start to peel back the corner. peel as much off as you can. if it doesn’t peel, get something to srape it off. you can also lightly scrub the wall with rag or brush to losen the glue, then scrap off.

if they used a lot of glue on installation, it will be more difficult to scrape off.

It’s very firmly stuck down and painting over it isn’t an option.

Use a sponge and soak it with warm soapy water. Then carefully use a scraper to remove it.

Wall appliques/stickers will not stay on wall?

Posted by admin on February 23rd, 2010 and filed under wall paper borders | 2 Comments »

I just bought some wall appliques/stickers and peel-and-stick wall paper border but it will NOT stay up. Any suggestions on what I can do to make them stick. I cannot take them back. UGH!
Walls are clean and dry. Would wallpaper paste work?

Make sure your walls are clean and smooth. Give them a good wash – and dry – and then try applying the appliques again.
