So I knitted a scarf in stockinette stitch and it keeps curling. I’ve read about different techniques to remedy this, but really I want to correct this on my next scarf by adding a border or something so I don’t have to worry about it as much. Any tips?

if you want to do a scarf in stockinette stitch then all you need to do is knit the first couple of stitches (two or three stitches is usually enough) on every row to do a garter stitch border. When you are on a pearl side row bring the yarn to the front of the work (in position to peal your next stitch) between your needles after to knit the few stitches.

I have heard that if you slip the first stitch instead of knitting or purling (you just move it to the other needle without working it, that also helps but I have never tried it to know if it works.

The wall paper border has been painted over, looks tacky, not sure if hot water will penatrated.

The best way to remove the wallpaper border depends on what type of wallpaper was used, what type of surface it was glued on and what type of adhesive was used.

One of the easiest things you can try is to use a hair dryer to heat the wallpaper border which may loosen the adhesive enough to let you peel it off.

Usually if the border has been glued to wallpaper, it will come off fairly easy. Slightly mist it down and use a plastic scraper to remove it from the wall.

If the wallpaper border has a vinyl covering that won’t let the water or any commercial wallpaper remover soak through, use a perforation tool over the entire surface of the border to allow it to soak in.

If the wallpaper border has been glued directly onto a painted wall, use warm water and some commercially available wallpaper remover and give it plenty of time to soak in before you try to scrap it off.

Steaming also works well for removing wallpaper borders. Steam the entire surface of the wallpaper border. Start from the bottom to the topmost part in sections.

If the adhesive is very strong, steam the boarder twice or more until the wallpaper boarder starts to loosen from the wall. Use a plastic or soft metal scraper to avoid damaging the wall.

Scrape the border off the wall working from the bottom up. Use warm water and a clean sponge to remove any remaining adhesive from the wall.

Instead of using a commercially available wallpaper stripper, you can also use a mixture of fabric softener and water. Mix 1 capful of fabric softener with 1 quart of water.

Pour it in a spray bottle and spray it right on the wallpaper border. For very strong adhesives, you can also use a sponge and soak the boarder with pure fabric softener.

Another “homemade” option is vinegar. Mix water and vinegar and pray it on, or use an old paint roller and roll it right on the wallpaper boarder. The stronger the wallpaper adhesive seems to be, the more vinegar you should use.

Use the vinegar option as a last resort, since it will smell pretty strongly for a few days. Wipe the walls down with a damp rag after you removed the wallpaper boarder to get as much of the vinegar as possible off your wall.

People before me put in some ugly wallpaper border halfway up the wall. I removed it to paint the room and it left me a noticeable gap between layers of paint and to top it off most of it was latex and now I have big peel spots around the gaps to top it off. Suggestions on how to fix this issue before I paint?

First of all, if the wall is textured, there’s not a lot you can do.

Otherwise, go to your home improvement store and get a 8 or 10 inch drywall knife and some spackling compound. Use the compound to transition from the painted portion to where the wallpaper was removed. This process is called skim-coating. It is used to smooth superficial irregularities in walls.

When the compound dries, sand it smooth. Apply a second coat of compound if necessary. Let dry then sand smooth.

Apply paint primer over the filled in areas. Let dry, then paint. Feather the paint into the existing, painted area to blend.

I am 15 years of age and I am going to the LMFAO concert in Canada. I have never been but I have next to the border in Washington for my whole life. I am traveling with my boyfriend who is also 15, his mom, and his grandma. Do you think that my permit, birth certificate, and a noterized letter from my mom with her signature and the two adults signature will be good enough to get through the border and back?

Kids 15 and under may enter Canada and return to the U.S. with just their birth certificates. You also need a notarized letter of permission signed by both parents. See 2nd site below for a form you can print out to use.

What good is a border fence if illegal immigrants can get to US through a tunnel. They can even bring supplies with them. or what is the use of deporting illegal immigrants if they can just come back via tunnels.

What good is it for stores to make laws against shoplifting if the perp just goes to another store? Same logic.
In a perfect world all a country would have to do is to say no trespassing and outsiders would stay out.
But that didn’t work so we had to put up a fence.
Unfortunately those trespassers discovered that they can dig under that fence.
So what would you suggest would be the next step? Instead of asking what good is it to do it this way, why don’t you think of a better solution?

You’ll have to get through the paint layer so that wallpaper remover can get to the wallpaper. They sell a tool for this, meant to score the surface of vinyl wallpapers to allow the remover to do its work. Any paint department should have one.
