Baking Supplies for your Pantry

Here is a list of supplies that will be necessary to complete our bread recipes when using our Norton's Wellbread(tm) Recipe Base bread mixes.  These are concentrates of organic, fresh milled whole grains blended for nutrition, aroma and taste.  You need to have the following available to complete these original recipes (the exception is Our Special Diet bread products are complete in that no additional flour is added to create the recipe.):

Yeast Breads Pantry Supplies

  1. Filtered Water (our preference)
  2. Fine sea salt or regular table salt
  3. Triple Virgin Olive Oil or butter or vegetable oil (Olive Oil for dipping also; do NOT use for cooking oil!)
  4. Baker's Yeast-Active (for slow bread machine cycle and oven baking)
  5. Baker's Yeast-Bread machine or Fast yeast (for short bread machine cycle)
  6. Honey or sugar (we prefer organic raw orange blossom honey in our recipes)
  7. Raisins, dried cranberries... to taste
  8. Fresh basil (to add to bread or olive oil for dipping bread and toast)
  9. Maine Maple syrup for pancakes
  10. Sunflower Oil  (great high temperature oil and addition to pancake mix in lieu of vegetable oil or butter)
  11. Baking Powder (add to pancake mix)
  12. Common household ingredients
    used in cooking: lemon juice (citric acid), vinegar, cream of tartar, orange juice, pineapple juice. An acid firms the texture of a complex starch: rice, potato, flour, etc.

For gluten-free pantry Supplies:

  1. Xanthan Gum is a natural carbohydrate produced by fermenting glucose with the appropriate micro organisms (Xanthomonas campestris). It is gluten-free but can be used as a substitute for gluten (the protein which gives wheat flour its structure). More info: http://www.xanthan.org.uk
  2. Bananas for fruit breads
  3. Dried papaya
  4. Crystalline ginger
  5. California golden raisins
  6. Starches: tapioca flour, potato flour, rice flour
  7. baking powder (gluten free)
  8. baking soda
