Here’s the video from Congressman Pete Stark’s Town Hall meeting last Saturday (June 26, 2010).
I used the border segment only (YouTube has a ten minute limit), the rest of the meeting was pretty tame anyway.
He made some pretty dumb comments as he rudely mocked me including “the borders are quite secure”, but it backfired on him.
Pete Stark has officially appointed himself the “poster boy” of what’s gone wrong with American politicians. Groups such as the “Minutemen” and the “Tea Party” is out to change that
Stark seemed medicated to me, had swollen ankles and could only sit on the edge of his chair for over an hour and a half. He’s well past doing an effective job, but in my opinion, that’s best for America anyway.

George Bush may have failed to pass major reforms this year to stem the flow of illegal immigrants into the country. But with the countdown underway to the 2008 presidential election it’s an issue that’s already dominating campaigning. Some critics are arguing that the United States is busy protecting borders abroad in Iraq and Afghanistan – but neglecting their own at home, as Shaun Devitt reports.

Ron Whitlock asks the Fmr. President of the Soviet Union (Speaking at University of Texas-Pan American): “President Gorbachev, if you agree that there’s a parallel between the Berlin Wall and the U.S. wall currently being placed along the border of Mexico and the United States what would you tell President Bush if he were here with us tonight?”

The most southwesterly point in the United States and most northwesterly point in Baja, California are very special but threatened by construction of an international border fence. The Tijuana Estuary is a transition zone between diverse plant and animal communities supporting 400 species of birds along with fish, amphibians, reptiles and mammals. The integrity of the estuary is threatened by the fence project. The archeological record shows that indigenous populations have been present here for the past ten to twelve thousand years. The Tijuana Estuary is the last tidal salt marsh in this region that has not been impacted by roads, railroads and other human activities. Because of this the United States Fish and Wildlife Service acquired the marsh and set it aside as the Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge in 1980. In 1981 the estuary was site selected as a National Estuarine Research Reserve under the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, (NOAA). In February of 2005 it was designated as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. The ecological concerns about construction of three fences brought the public, environmental community, agencies and elected officials together to modify the design. . All attempts were blocked by the Border Patrol. In February 2004 the California Coastal Commission voted against the project. In February 2004 six environmental organizations filed a law suit against the border patrol hoping for a better project. On December 12th of 2005 this law suite was over turned by Judge Burns in San Diego, California. It is clear that any law that would impede the construction of the border fence will be overridden at the discretion of the Secretary of Homeland Security. The public has no recourse to modify the border fence project even if another design saves tax dollars and might be more effective. The constitutionality of process is questionable. This fence is emblematic of the politics of fear.

Have we had enough yet? What is it going to take to wake the American people up to the fact that their country is being overrun with foreigners who have no great love of this country, but who only want to make a buck at any expense.
Should not the violence on the Mexican-American border be a warning to us all of what is waiting for all of America if this illegal immigration is not stopped? How long will we wait until we take control of our border? I say that when the troops start coming home from Iraq, that they should head strait for our border, because that is where the real threat to America is coming from.
Now don’t get me wrong and start calling me a racist, because I’m not. All that I’m saying is that we need to control our borders; we need to know who is entering our country. Is that too much to ask for?

Mexican drug cartels take over U.S. cities
Mexican drug cartels operating in cities in the U.S. are buying up legitimate businesses to launder money and using some of the proceeds to win local mayoral and city council seats for politicians who can shape the policies and personnel decisions of their police forces, according to Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., who has led the fight to secure the U.S.-Mexico border and enforce the nation’s immigration laws.
In his new book, “In Mortal Danger: The Battle for America’s Border and Security,” Tancredo exposes what he has learned from meetings with law enforcement authorities regarding a concerted effort by the Mexican mafia and drug cartels to extend their corruptive influence in urban areas dominated by illegal alien populations.
Tancredo says some of these small cities have become hostile and dangerous places for legitimate law enforcement officials.
“The Tijuana-based Felix drug cartel and the Juarez-based Fuentes cartel began buying legitimate business in small towns in Los Angeles County in the early 1990s,” he writes in his new book published by WND Books. “They purchased restaurants, used-car lots, auto-body shops and other small businesses. One of their purposes was to use these businesses for money-laundering operations. Once established in their community, these cartel-financed business owners ran for city council and other local offices. Over time, they were able to buy votes and influence in an effort to take over the management of the town. They wanted to create a comfort zone from which they could operate without interference from local law enforcement.”
Tancredo, the chairman of the House Immigration Reform Caucus, now a powerful force within Congress for opposing amnesty plans for illegal aliens and for promoting tougher border security measures, points, as an example, to the L.A. County city of Bell Gardens where corrupt elected officials under the influence of drug lords actually tried to shut down the police department.
“City officials who would not cooperate with the Mexican-born city manager were forced out of office,” he writes. “Eventually, the L.A. County attorney’s office moved in, and the city manager was prosecuted on charges of corruption. Unfortunately, Bell Gardens was only the tip of the iceberg. Other Los Angeles suburbs including Huntington Park, Lynwood and Southgate became targets for the cartels.”
In fact, similar efforts to undermine law and order by Mexican criminal gangs are under way, Tancredo says, in Texas, Arizona and elsewhere.
“The corruption spreading from south of the border is not confined to Southern California,” he writes. “In Cameron County, Texas, the former sheriff and several other officials were recently convicted of…

Just as government officials had feared, the drug violence raging in Mexico is spilling over into the United States.
U.S. authorities are reporting a spike in killings, kidnappings and home invasions connected to Mexicos murderous cartels. And to some policymakers surprise, much of the violence is happening not in towns along the border, where it was assumed the bloodshed would spread, but a considerable distance away, in places such as Phoenix and Atlanta.
Investigators fear the violence could erupt elsewhere around the country because the Mexican cartels are believed to have set up drug-dealing operations all over the U.S., in such far-flung places as Anchorage, Alaska; Boston; and Sioux Falls, S.D.
The violence follows the drugs, said David Cuthbertson, agent in charge of El Pasos FBI office.
The violence takes many forms: Drug customers who owe money are kidnapped until they pay up. Cartel employees who dont deliver the goods or turn over the profits are disciplined through beatings, kidnappings or worse. And drug smugglers kidnap illegal immigrants in clashes with human smugglers over the use of secret routes from Mexico.
So far, the violence is nowhere near as grisly as…
