I have some border trim wallpaper that is being very stubborn
I was wondering if I could sand the wall paper removing most of the top layer and then put a primer on the wall paper and then paint
crown molding will then be going up but will cover maybe 3 of the 6 or so inches that the wall paper now covers
yes, prime with pro-block after sanding. this site will help

Have you tried using DIF to remove the paper? If not, you’ll see a shadow under the new paint.

My family has painted over wallpaper before and it ended up bubbling. I’m not so sure it’s a great idea.

What I’ve done in the past that works well is to rip as much of the wall paper off as possible. Then use a drywall mud to skim coat over the top of the remaining wallpaper. Sand that lightly for a smooth finish, prime it and you’re ready to paint.

Instead of sanding, clean it really good.

dont do it……….use DIF as suggested earlier with a plastic spackle blade as a scraper and it will come right off……if you paint over it it will look bad and noticeable no matter how you do it.

Yes you can but chances are you won’t be real happy with it. It can bubble, sometimes the pattern shows through and it makes it very hard to get it off later. Wallpaper remover will help a lot and a wallpaper tiger will perforate the paper so it can penetrate and loosen it.

You can do whatever you want. The consequences are what you make of them.
