On Wednesday, December 3, 2008, State Sen. Eliot Shapleigh, El Paso County Attorney Jose Rodriguez, El Paso City Rep. Steve Ortega and Mr. Karl McElhaney from the office of U.S. Congressman Sylvestre Reyes held a press conference to discuss the content of a joint letter they will be sending to President-elect Barack Obama in opposition to the Border Wall.
The joint statement was issued as part of he National Border Wall Summit held at the Camino Real Hotel in El Paso.
The two-day summit was being organized by the organization Border Ambassadors, and brought together diverse organizations, individuals, and elected officials from along the border and across the country to collaborate on border wall opposition strategy.
